There is 6mm tread on all of the Bridgestone tyres, tracking and alignment was done earlier this year. A diagnostics/health check was completed by a main dealer at the last service highlighting no issues with the car other than 30% wear on rear brake pads, 60% wear on front brake pads (front will need replacing in approx 6000miles - this work was quoted at £189+VAT parts and labour from Alfa dealer). I had body work stone chips and cosmetic marks touched up by local coach works last month, so both exterior and interior are very clean. The seats are showing little wear on the leather, the interior is still very neat and tight in comparison with some Brera`s i`ve seen. The back seats and boot have hardly been used, and the car comes complete with the original Alfa tool kit. Very tight drive, tight steering and confident gear shifts. Alfa`s Blue&Me bluetooth phone and voice recognition system is also built into stereo. The car comes with the original key, plus spare Complete and original documentation. | Summary | This car is a lovely example of a great coupe and represents a fantastic value. This is a great and well looked after example of a beautiful car. Priced at £8995.00, however I will consider offers. Inspection welcome, please email me with any questions or for any further details. Happy to provide the full reg number on a one-to-one basis. Thank you. | X

The 159 saloon has been generally well received, there’s an ex-BMW man keeping an iron grip over quality, and now there’s this, the new Brera coupé. There could be nothing more appropriate to lead Alfa’s comeback charge than a sexy, high-performance coupé. Its looks have split opinion more than any other car we can recall. For some, it represents the very quintessence of how the 21st century Alfa should appear. To others, it’s not only misproportioned but also a missed opportunity at a critical time in Alfa’s recovery strategy. That said, what no one doubts is that it has massive road presence and that it is unmistakably an Alfa Romeo. If you want to save money on both purchase and running costs, you can choose to power your Brera with a 2.2-litre petrol engine or a 2.4-litre five-cylinder diesel, but those looking for a Brera that’s as fast as it looks will be drawn towards the 3.2-litre V6 petrol motor fitted (complete with four-wheel drive) to the top-of-the-range Brera 3.2 V6 JTS Q4. It is this car that falls under our scrutiny now; it arrived costing £29,850 in SV trim. That price is what we round here call fighting talk. It’s more than the £28,845 Nissan asks for the 300bhp 350Z complete with GT pack, wildly more than the £22,900 Mazda wants for the high-power version of the RX-8 and more, even, than the £29,285 you’ll need to take delivery of an all-new Audi TT 3.2. Even if you forgo the leather seats and panoramic sunroof of the SV model, the standard V6 Brera will still set you back £28,750. Request Brochure Test Drive Best Deals It's easy to think of Alfa Romeo as being a maker of cars with screaming engines which work at their best only when they're making a noise like the last three minutes of a Rossini overture. Alfa has never been a major seller in the UK, and in the normal way of things the cars which have sold best have been the cheaper ones, which in turn tend to be the ones with the smaller, higher-revving engines. Those of you with a more comprehensive knowledge of the Italian manufacturer and its history will be aware that there's another Alfa tradition - that of building cars with engines which hardly need revving at all, but which produce storming power (and a deeper-throated but no less evocative sound) from low engine speeds. In the case of the Brera, the forthcoming 3.2-litre V6 model will follow exactly this route, but for the moment the 2.4-litre JTM turbo diesel covers the ground nicely. I hinted at the JTM's abilities in an earlier road test of the 2.2-litre petrol-engined Brera. There's a lot to be said for that car, not least the fact that in the same SV trim level it's £3000 cheaper than the JTM, but it's beaten by the diesel in nearly every respect. With 200bhp - a 15bhp advantage - the diesel is fractionally quicker in the standard tests for top speed and 0-62mph acceleration, yet this is only part of the story; the JTM produces its power so far down the rev range that it's much easier to drive, and responds more eagerly to movement of the accelerator pedal. The JTM is also outstandingly more economical, with a combined figure on the high side of 40mpg, and has a much better CO2 rating; it's the only Brera which dips under the 200g/km barrier. Perhaps most surprisingly, this is also the best-handling Brera I've driven, though I imagine that will change when the four-wheel drive V6 appears. As with the Alfa Romeo 159 (see launch report) the Brera range as a whole suffers from underdamping at the front, but the compromises involved in fitting the heavier diesel engine seem to have worked in the JTM's favour. As well as performing better than the 2.2, the JTM also corners more sharply, though not to the extent that it feels as sporty as it looks. The way the Brera looks is probably its most important feature. It's based on a prototype which, among other achievements, won a prize for being The Most Beautiful Car In The World back in 2004. I'd say it represented purpose rather than beauty myself, but I don't deny that it has visual presence. As I've said before, the Brera gives the impression - more so even than the 159 which which it shares a front-end lighting system - of constantly aiming 50 yards ahead of wherever it happens to be. I was about to say that practicality takes a back seat to visual effect, but that would be slightly unfortunate in this case because although the Brera has a back seat - it really does, honest, I've seen it - there is no human being of my acquaintance who could possibly sit in it. Rear legroom, when the driver's seat is set to a position that's comfortable for me, is literally zero. Luggage space is better (300 litres normally, 610 if you fold the rear seat into a position which makes it neither more nor less useful as something for carrying passengers), but difficult to reach thanks to the narrow rear window and very high load sill. Rear visibility . . . well, it's more like rear invisibility. Reversing into parking spaces is largely a matter of guesswork. But another thing I've also said about the Brera is that if you want something practical you might as well buy a 159 instead. The Brera is more of a toy - a car you'll enjoy seeing outside your house and, particular in turbo diesel form, one you'll also have fun driving. You don't have to spend the test car's £27,500 to experience the JTD. That price applies to the high-spec SV version, but there's also a £26,400 alternative. On top of the standard equipment, the SV gets folding door mirrors, 17" alloy wheels (in place of 16" ones), stainless steel kick plates, a panoramic glass sunroof, leather upholstery and some interior aluminium. The vast range of options includes still larger wheels, a passenger knee airbag, metallic or Alfa Red paint, electrically adjustable front seats, uprated leather, headlight washers, bi-xenon headlights, several sound systems, satellite navigation and much else. In fact, it's possible to rack up the options to such an extent that you're presented with a bill for over £35,000, but it's difficult to justify a two-wheel drive Brera at anything like this sort of money, no matter how good-looking it is. Dont look! Its got appeal to die for and once youve laid eyes on it youll just have to buy one REVITALISED TO THE TUNE of £6.5 million for their 'above the line' marketing activities, by the middle of the year Alfa Romeo will also have a revitalised UK model line-up. With their relatively new Alfa 146 three- and five door hatchbacks achieving a modest growth in sales, it is the recently introduced Alfa 159 four-door sports saloon launched in February which will be its volume seller. But it is the striking-looking Alfa Brera sports coupé that is one of its new 'halo' models and the flagship of their new range. Other important additions to the range will be the 159 Sportswagon due in May followed, in June, by the biggest 'halo' model of them all the Alfa Spider. Alfa Romeo say that the 159, the Sportswagon, Brera and Spider plus the considerable marketing activities which includes television advertising for the first time in two years should give the once-famous Alfa marque real impetus to improve its annual sales in the short-term. From 6,400 units last year to 8,000 units this year. Alfa Romeo UK see 2006 as a period of consolidation following years of decline in the UK 20 per cent down last year, which made the UK Europe's worst market for Alfa Romeo. The lack of direction from the former Alfa Romeo UK management combined with lack of new products, lack of investment and disillusioned dealers caused the decline. With a new UK management board, more marketing money, new models and a refocused dealer network, new managing director Christopher Nicoll said: "Our targets are realistic and modest and our ambition is to achieve around a 0.7 or 0.8 per cent share of the UK car market in the future. Initially, around 10,000 annual sales is the realistic target with the new models we have coming and these new products will deliver more growth for the brand in the UK." Speaking at the UK media introduction of the three-door 2+2 Brera sports coupé, Nicoll said that out of the 8,000 sales the brand should achieve in the UK this year, the Brera and Spider models should account for 2,100 sales with a 50:50 split between models and with 25 per cent of these sales for the diesel variants. The 159 saloons and Sportswagons are targeted to reach around 3,500 UK sales this year, with the Sportswagon variants achieving 35 per cent of that total. Alfa says the new Bera is a 2+2 sports coupé in the classic Alfa Romeo tradition. The production version remains remarkably true to the award-winning concept coupé design first shown at the 2002 Geneva Motor Show. Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and Alfa's own styling house and built by Pininfarina, the coupé is available in six versions priced from £22,800 to £29,850. Initially the Brera will be available with two direct injection petrol and diesel engines. In four week's time another new petrol engine a 260bhp 3.2-litre V6 will be added to the Brera range, along with Alfa's Q4 four wheel drive system. For its debut this month, the Brera has the option of a new 2.2-litre 4-cylinder 185bhp petrol engine and Alfa's well-liked 2.4-litre 5-cylinder turbocharged 200bhp JTD MultiJet common-rail direct injection turbocharged diesel powerplant, fitted with a 'for life' maintenance-free particulate trap filter in anticipation of Euro 5 emissions regulations. All models use a six-speed manual gearbox, although automatic transmission options will be available by the end of this year. There are two levels of specification Brera and Brera SV and Nicoll expects 90 per cent of customers to choose the SV package which includes: leather interior trim, stainless steel kick-plates, brushed aluminium centre consol and trim inserts and 17-inch alloy. The 3.2 Q4 models will also have 17-inch wheels as standard. The Brera's comprehensive standard specification includes one-touch electric windows, Dual Zone climate control, remote central locking with alarm, seven airbags (including driver's knee airbag), electronic key and start button, stereo radio/CD with steering wheel audio controls and six speakers, leather steering wheel and gear knob, fog lights, rear parking sensors, cruise control, multifunction display, anti-lock braking, Vehicle Dynamic Control stability system incorporating Alfa's Hill Holder facility for smooth hill starts, centre rear arm rest with a ski tunnel/access hatch, 60:40 split folding rear seats and 16-inch alloy wheels. Extra cost options range from a huge, full-length Sky View panoramic laminated glass sunroof with an electrically-controlled interior blind, Xenon headlights, SatNav, electrically-adjustable front seats, a BOSE sound system, Bluetooth mobile 'phone connectivity, 18-inch alloy wheels and bCONNECT a ground-breaking, on-line system that connects the driver to an extensive range of services via either manual control or voice commands. The 2+2 coupé body style provides for 300 litres of luggage space with the rear seats in position, and a practical 610-litre load bay with the rear seats folded. The Brera uses a shortened version of the new generation platform it shares with the Alfa 159 which, says Alfa, gives their new sports coupé an extremely safe and rigid bodyshell for predictable handling characteristics under all conditions. With 1,000 orders already in the bag for the new registration plate not just for Brera but for all Alfa models I just hope Alfa are now (finally) heading in the right direction. The Brera is such a stunning car to look at it gives me real hope that the dark days for the marque in the UK are over. The elegant 2+2 body's wide wheel arches and rising waistline towards the rear is perfect, but the beautiful front end is even better in real life than in the pictures. The bonnet, with its legendary Villa d'Este style Alfa shield grille and triple light clusters either side, is stunning. Once again, the number plate is offset to the left a style signature echoing past classics and unique to Alfa Romeo. If this coupé does not get people back to buying Alfa Romeos, nothing will. The old problems of build quality, poor ergonomics and a bad driving seat relative to the position and distance from the steering wheel and pedals, have all gone. The driver benefits from a height-adjustable seat allied to a rake and reach adjustable, leather-wrapped steering wheel. The new coupé feels strong, well built and very stiff not rigid and provides a sound dynamic platform for its double wishbone front and sophisticated new multilink rear suspension. Handling, consequently, is predictable and gives good feedback. The ride is compliant and comfortable, but not too harsh. The diesel models appear to ride better over typical undulating British A- and B-roads due, I gather, to fact that the five-cylinder diesel engine is a little heavier. Being a front-wheel drive car, the extra weight also improved both the front-end grip during cornering on wet roads and the feel through the steering. The new all-aluminium, 2.2-litre 185bhp petrol engine which is some 20 per cent lighter than the unit it replaces is very free revving, but as it produces its maximum power at 6,500rpm (its 170lb ft of torque peaks at 4,500rpm) it needs to be worked hard with liberal use of the 6-speed gearbox to get the best out of it. Pushed hard under acceleration it felt a tad lacking in the real power surge department. But once on 'the cruise' on open roads it was fine, running to 138mph and despatching the 0-62mph sprint in 8.6 seconds. For me, the 2.4-litre turbodiesel engine with 200bhp developed at 4,000rpm and more importantly 295lb ft of torque at 2,000rpm, is the real gem. It is quiet, extremely responsive and a true sports diesel. Whilst the petrol model returned just under 24mpg on our test route, the diesel recorded an impressive 39mpg comfortably close to the official 41.5 combined figure. Touring is given as 52.3mpg. For good measure the diesel is faster too, taking just 8.1 seconds for the 0-62mph dash before going on to reach a top speed is 142mph. But and it's a very big 'but' if you choose the diesel engine option it will cost you between £3,000 and £3,600 more than a 2.2-litre petrol models. There will be those who disagree, but I think it is much too steep a price jump to justify. So, although the diesel's the better model, in reality the £24,500 2.2 JTS SV petrol version would be the model to go for. About the only other criticism I have is the somewhat restricted rear quarter visibility. However, if your heart rules your head as Alfa is justifiably confident it will then you'll learn to live with it. The standard-fit rear parking system will certainly help. Whichever model you decide on, there is one thing you can be absolutely sure of. You'll be getting a three-door 2+2 coupé with looks to die for. Better still, it's also practical and well equipped. Perhaps it's a case of 'See Alfa and Buy!' With inventive styling by both Alfa’s in-house Centro Stile team and Guigiaro, the Brera is a brawny but practical coupe aimed at those who prefer a spicy pepperoni to a German bratwurst. Alfa Romeo Brera lease prices Alfa Romeo Brera new and nearly new Performance There are currently three different engines available: a 2.2-litre 4cyl petrol, a 2.4 5cyl diesel and a 3.2 petrol V6. I drove the V6 and, with its 6-speed gearbox (auto is an option) and a wholesome 260bhp, the sweet-sounding Brera is a strong performer. The quoted figures are 0-62 in 6.8secs with a top end of 152mph. Yes, there are plenty of faster cars, and many of those Italian, but in the real world the V6 Brera has gutsy acceleration, it can comfortably cruise at criminal speeds and so probably provides all that’s needed and more. Ride & Handling If you accept that the Brera handles and steers more like a grand tourer than a razor-sharp sports car, then you’ll not be disappointed. Trouble is, when the car was first launched back in 2006 not everyone saw it that way and so the specialist firm Prodrive was brought in to make the Brera better suited to hard driving on British (bad) roads. This resulted in the S version (released ’08) which, by many accounts, now rides harshly and feels a bit jittery. Personally, I was happy enough with the first model, especially this all-wheel drive Q4, which puts the power down without fuss or drama and drives safely, predictably and enjoyably. Build Quality & Reliability Cast a keen eye over the Brera’s exterior, interior and in the nooks and crannies and I doubt your find much amiss. There may be one or two interior fitments which may not appear to be of the very highest quality, but the general design and feel of the interior is good and this makes up for any small shortcomings. More generally, Alfa’s reputation for build and reliability has been below par for many years, but recent and significant improvements have been made to both the quality of the cars and the after sales service. Safety & Security The Brera hasn’t been through the Euro NCAP crash test procedure so there are no star ratings available, but it can be fitted with up to eight airbags, seven of which are standard equipment, while height adjustable front seatbelts with pretensioners and load limiters, anti-whiplash front seat head restraints, three-point rear seatbelts, anti-submarining front seats, ISOFIX child seat attachments and a Fire Prevention System are all fitted as standard. There’s also ABS (with EBD and HBA) as well as VDC (Alfa’s ESP). Remote central locking (inc. fuel flap), a coded immobiliser and a volumetric alarm are also all standard. Space & Practicality If you’re looking for a similarly-sized Alfa Romeo that seats four plus luggage in comfort then may I direct you toward the 159, (or 159 Sportwagon), the model on which the Brera is based. Bar slightly borderline headroom, (a problem not helped by the panoramic roof option), everything’s fine for front seat occupants, but being slightly shorter, and with low-cut coupe styling, the Brera does not offer rear seat passengers very much at all by way of leg- or headroom. Forget 2+2, this is more 2+0.2. The boot capacity is 300 litres and this more than doubles with the two rear seats folded forward, although you might struggle to lift heavy luggage over the high boot sill. Ownership & Value For maximum fuel economy the 41.5 (combined) mpg of the 2.4 JTD scores highly, but, as you would expect, this big 3.2 V6 Q4 is somewhat juicier at 24.7mpg. The upper spec SV model offers all the equipment you’d expect, including climate control and leather upholstery, plus quite a bit you might not such as diffused ambient interior lighting and puddle lights on the underside of the doors. The Brera also boasts a long list of hi-tech audio, navigation and communications options. But as any Alfa dealer or owner will tell you, Alfas are not about the detail, they’re about the passion, and the Brera has more of that than most.
