There is 6mm tread on all of the Bridgestone tyres, tracking and alignment was done earlier this year. A diagnostics/health check was completed by a main dealer at the last service highlighting no issues with the car other than 30% wear on rear brake pads, 60% wear on front brake pads (front will need replacing in approx 6000miles - this work was quoted at £189+VAT parts and labour from Alfa dealer). I had body work stone chips and cosmetic marks touched up by local coach works last month, so both exterior and interior are very clean. The seats are showing little wear on the leather, the interior is still very neat and tight in comparison with some Brera`s i`ve seen. The back seats and boot have hardly been used, and the car comes complete with the original Alfa tool kit. Very tight drive, tight steering and confident gear shifts. Alfa`s Blue&Me bluetooth phone and voice recognition system is also built into stereo. The car comes with the original key, plus spare Complete and original documentation. | Summary | This car is a lovely example of a great coupe and represents a fantastic value. This is a great and well looked after example of a beautiful car. Priced at £8995.00, however I will consider offers. Inspection welcome, please email me with any questions or for any further details. Happy to provide the full reg number on a one-to-one basis. Thank you. | X

[edit] 2.0 2.0 JTS engine. The JTS engine debuted in 2002 in the Alfa Romeo 156. The engine was based on the 2.0 Twin Spark, replacing Twin Spark with direct injection, dubbed "Jet Thrust Stoichiometric". This improved power from 114 kW (155 PS) to 121 kW (165 PS), but more importantly, torque climbed from 187 Nm (137 ft.lbf) to 206 Nm (151 ft.lbf). In 2003, this engine was introduced to the GTV/Spider coupé and roadster. In spite of its benefits to power, torque and economy, the JTS was not used in the smaller 147 or the larger 166 , and much less in other models from the Fiat Group. This was allegedly because the JTS engine cost a lot more to produce than the Twin Spark. Displacement: 1970 cc

It was only in 2005, with the arrival of the 159, that more variants of the JTS were produced. The 2.0 JTS gave way to a 1.9 L variant with 118 kW (160 PS) and a 2.2 L version with 136 kW (185 PS). The 1.9JTS and 2.2JTS form part of a new engine family and are completely different from the 2.0JTS. Both 1.9 L and 2.2 L have chain driven camshafts and variable valve timing on both inlet and exhaust camshafts. Both current 1.9 and 2.2 JTS engine blocks are supplied by GM to the Fiat group. Both models are mapped to either a 6 speed manual gearbox plus a reverse gear, or a Formula One inspired sequential gearbox also comprising of 6 gears and reverse. Displacement: 1859 cc

[edit] 3.2
The JTS direct injection system was first used in a V6 engine in 2005 with the introduction of the Alfa 159 and Brera. This is not related to the Alfa Romeo V6 engine, but is instead a derivation of the GM High Feature engine, built in Australia by GM Holden, modified by Alfa and capable of generating 191 kW (260 PS), a number matching the larger 3.6 L variant used by GM. Alfa's engine is equipped with cam-phasing (variable valve timing) on both inlet and exhaust sides, thus the name "TwinPhaser". Camshafts are driven by chain. The 3.2 JTS engine has a 89 mm (3.5 in) bore and a 85.6 mm (3.37 in) stroke. Displacement: 3195 cc
Power: 191 kW (260 PS; 256 hp) @6200 rpm

Expert Rating: Although it may not leap from the spec sheet at you, the 2.2-Litre JTS engine in the Alfa 159 is easy to fall for. Andy Enright reportsAs a species, we have a weakness for superlatives. We love to know what the fastest, the biggest, the most expensive and the most beautiful cars are. By the same token we're also curious as to what the slowest, the smallest, the cheapest and the ugliest models are. Cars that come somewhere in the middle require a little more mental processing to pigeonhole and, as such, these essential compromises are often easy to overlook.Take Alfa Romeo's 159 2.2JTS model. It sits in the middle of their petrol line up between the 1.8 and 3.2-litre cars. In many respects it's the unexceptional model, the one you will most likely not buy. Go beyond the superficial, however, and there are some compelling reasons why this car makes all sorts of sense. Doing your homework when it comes to buying a new car is rarely time wasted. If you're in the market for a mid-range Alfa Romeo 159 and you've taken a quick look at the 2.2-litre JTS model, you've doubtless also glanced at the relative value propositions of the 1.8-litre MPI petrol and the 1.9-litre JTD MultiJet diesel. If I was spending my own money, the diesel-engined car would get the nod every time. Virtually as quick as the 2.2JTS, way more economical and £500 cheaper model for model, it would appear to be a no brainer. That ignores the significant percentage of buyers who won't countenance a diesel engine, even if it is as good as the JTD MultiJet unit. These customers prefer the broader spread of torque of a decent petrol engine, abhor the turbo lag that's inherent in even the best turbodiesel installations and also dislike the noise at start-up, the temperamental cold weather starting, the messy refuelling procedure and the absence of the stirring soundtrack that accompanies a tuneful petrol engine."As much sense as a diesel-engined 159 makes on the balance sheet, if there's ever a time to let head rule heart it's when buying an Alfa Romeo"If you've read this far, the chances are you're one of these people. You're willing to forgo a few hundred pounds in annual running costs in order to not drive a diesel. If that is indeed the scenario, the 2.2-litre JTS model's case becomes really rather convincing. Compared to its 1.8-litre MPI petrol sibling, it's only marginally thirstier (a combined economy figure of 30.1 compared to 36.7mpg), quicker out of the blocks (getting from rest to 60mph in 8.5s as opposed to 10.2) and you get this extra urge for the relatively affordable premium of about £2,750. That money buys you an extra 45bhp, the 1.9-litre car knocking out 140bhp whereas the 2.2 nets you a hefty 185bhp and torque is much improved too, the 2.2-litre JTS engine serving up 230NM as opposed to the 1.8-litre's 175Nm showing. Otherwise there's not a huge difference between these two petrol cars. They share a lot of common parts including brakes and gearbox, but the 2.2-litre model can be identified from a distance by its twin chromed exhausts whereas the 1.8-litre model just sports the one tail pipe. Available in either standard, Lusso or TI trims, the range opens at just under £22,000 and tops out at just over £24,000 for the saloon models. The Sportwagon estates are also well worth investigating. Lusso trim gets you extras like leather, rain sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, rear parking sensors and 17-inch alloy wheels. The Joint Thrust Stoichiometric (JTS) engine uses the principle of direct gasoline injection as used by Mitsubishi with their GDI powerplants and Renault with their HPI range of units. These fire fuel into the cylinder on the inlet stroke and meter their petrol ration minutely for optimum swirl, burn and a happy customer. This lean running results in superb economy, but these engines have traditionally had an Achilles heel. The pistons and inlet ports are designed for low-down economy, and the engine reverts to a normal - or stoichiometric - mix of air and fuel when you plant the loud pedal. Research has shown that Alfa owners enjoy doing this. A lot. Therefore, the normal gasoline direct engine just wouldn't wash. The JTS engine, on the other hand, uses relatively normal shaped pistons and inlet ports and relies on the actual fuel jet and a sky-high compression rate to do the job instead. Therefore, the JTS engine runs super-lean only up to around 1,500rpm, and normally thereafter. To the untrained eye, this would suggest that this 159 is the perfect sporting car for those who spend most of their time stuck in nose to tail traffic but there's more to it than that. Although it doesn't possess that addictive metallic zing of the old Twin Spark unit fitted to the 156, the JTS engine is refined and smooth even at higher revs. Continuous dual variable valve timing (ie. on both inlet and exhaust) gives decent torque at lower revs and a better power response at higher engine speeds. Watching one appear in my rear-view at the Nurburgring, I can assure you this vehicle has more overtaking presence than almost any BMW, the gimlet-eyed headlamps and razor-sharp front grille looking rather intimidating. The rear end is genuinely tricky to differentiate from the 156 at first glance, but the side view shows sharper creasing and swage lines with a longer front end. As cohesive a piece of penmanship as the 156 was, the 159 is a better balanced car. You'll only really consider buying the 159 2.2-litre JTS if you are dead set against buying a diesel because, on most objective criteria, the 1.9-litre JTD MultiJet is the better car. The thing is, we don't always buy our vehicles on strictly rational grounds and especially cars that are as sumptuously styled as Alfa`s 159. The diesel is only worth a look if you’re doing serious mileage, because it carries a hefty premium and diesel is dearer at the pumps. The brochure prices are high, so aim for a decent saving. If your dealer won’t at least hit the Target Price, check out some internet brokers. Central to the changes is a new- generation four-cylinder petrol engine. The unique Twin Spark 2-litre has gone, replaced by a torquier, more powerful, cleaner and more economical direct- injection 2-litre petrol engine. The forerunner of an entire family of Alfa direct-injection petrol engines, this new unit powers the 156 JTS (short for Jet Thrust Stoichiometric) in both saloon and Sportwagon guises and successfully combines the seemingly conflicting aims of better economy and cleaner emissions with greater power and torque outputs. The advantage of a direct injection petrol engine over a conventional injection unit is its ability to create a leaner air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. It also increases the engine's volumetric efficiency because injecting fuel directly into the combustion chamber cools the intake air, making it denser. But the Alfa JTS engine differs from other direct-injection petrol engines because where they maintain this lean- burn mixture for the first 3000rpm or so, and use pistons and inlet ducts designed for lean-burn, the JTS doesn't rely on such piston and duct changes, and only adheres to the miserly lean-burn regime for the first 1500rpm. This ensures reduced fuel consumption and emissions at idle and during urban driving but still endows the engine with undiminished response when full power is required. When you compare this new engine with the outgoing Twin Spark 2-litre you can understand why Alfa is so excited about direct injection. Maximum power is up from 150bhp to 165bhp, while torque takes a similar jump from 133lb ft to 152lb ft. Overall economy is mildly improved and emissions already meet tough new Euro IV limits. Handy though the gains are on paper, the JTS feels even more impressive on the road. Where the old Twin Spark 2-litre lacked real low-rev and mid-range lugging power, the new engine delivers a more muscular shove of torque. Any fears about the new engine lacking the fizz of the Twin Spark are soon dispelled, as its hunger for revs is undiminished. The difference being that you now work the engine hard because you want to, not because you have to. Alfa has also taken the opportunity to improve the Selespeed transmission system. There are now dinky little paddles behind the wheel rim, rather than the earlier 156 Selespeed's awkward spoke-mounted buttons. Not only do the tactile, rubberised paddles feel more natural to operate but they also command slightly crisper shifts. Another tweak is the ability to override the system's Auto setting without changing out of that mode. Alfa's excellent Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) stability system is now standard across the range. VDC takes information from the engine, throttle, steering and a gyroscopic yaw and lateral g sensor, and by modulating both power and braking on individual wheels, brings the car back under control if you're pushing too hard. While some systems can feel obtrusive and clumsy, VDC has a natural, almost organic feel under all but the most severe provocation. The interior has benefited from some equally far-reaching changes. Material quality is greatly improved with better texturing and tactility. The facia layout is fully revised, with a new centre console containing attractive and more user- friendly ventilation controls. There's also a multi-function screen that displays trip computer information plus feedback on any faults and the action required. Safety is also enhanced, thanks to window airbags on all models and ISOFIX attachments for the safe fitment of child seats in the rear of the car. Dynamically the 156 feels as tidy as ever, with quick-witted steering, compliant ride and agile responses all present and correct. All of which points to the 156 maintaining its position as one of the most desirable, entertaining and stylish saloons/estates currently on sale.
