Alfa Romeo Alfetta 2.0 Berlina
.
Alfetta Manual 2.0 litrer Left Hand Drive
We have for sale, a very rare two owner from new Alfa Romeo Alfetta 2.0 Berlina Saloon, in Brown with Beige Velour. The car has a full and interesting...>
history, it was registered new in Rome, is left hand drive and has covered 175,000 kms. The car drives well, has had new floors but does need some cosmetic work, ie the offside door bootms are starting to rust out, as is the bottom of the rear offside wing. The interior is very clean and tidy, needs a few minor bits to complete, but is basically all there. The wheels need shot blasting and repainting, but have brand new tyres on. The car has a new centre and rear section exhaust, new handbrake cable, nearside rear caliper, all the electrics work, we needed to fit a new indicator flasher unit, thats all, the oil pressure is good, it has a Blaupaunkt stereo, that is not wired up, but everything is there. The bodywork is finished in a brown colour that needs a good compound and t-cut, before final polishing. The twin cam 2.0 litre engine pulls well and the gearbox is a delight to use. Please note the car is UK registered, but is currently in the Channel Islands, so will need to be shipped into Southampton for collection. Any question, please do not hesitate to ask, or telephone 07781 107084/01 481 240500 On 08-May-12 at 09:44:52 BST, seller added the following information: We have now loaded 12 pictures of the car, we have more if required or can take specific ones if required. We have began the Compound and Polishing process as can be seen by the bonnet and nearside front wing. Over the weekend we have located a new offside door mirror as ours has brewers droop, new offside rear light lens, ours is cracked and a new offside front wing. We are trying to locate door skins and rear wing panels, plus the vents for the centre console heater outlets which are missing. X

It was popular due to its combination of a modest design with powerful engines, selling over 400,000 units until the end of its production run, but in the final years its sales were down due to Alfa Romeo's reliability problems that plagued the company through the late 1970s and early 1980s. [ citation needed ] Some problems were noticed in contemporary commentaries by motor testers such as Archie Vicar . [ 2 ] The Sedan had a body designed by Centro Stile Alfa Romeo, and the Alfetta GTV coupe (not to be confused with the more recent 1995 Alfa Romeo GTV , or the classic Giulia GTV ), was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro . The Alfetta introduced a new drivetrain layout to the marque. Clutch and transmission were housed at the rear of the car, together with the differential for a more balanced weight distribution, as used on the Alfetta 158/159 Grand Prix cars. The suspension relied on double wishbones and torsion bars at the front and a de Dion beam at the rear. The Alfetta was renewed in 1979 with a revised frontend, new wheel rims and new lights, as well as a diesel version. [ 3 ] The 1.6 and 1.8 L base models had two double-barrel carburettors , while the 2.0 DOHC received fuel injection in 1979. The diesel initially had 2.0 L, but was increased to 2.4 L in 1982. The four-door Alfetta was sold in the USA from 1975 through 1977 under the name Alfetta Sedan . From 1978 to 1979 a mildly restyled version was sold under the name Sport Sedan . The four-cylinder coupe was available from 1975 to 1977 under the moniker Alfetta GT , renamed the Sprint Veloce for the final two years of production in 1978 and 1979. Finally, the V-6 version was marketed from 1981 to 1986 as the GTV-6 . The Alfa Romeo Alfetta became well known throughout the world since it was Italian Prime Minister Aldo Moro 's official escort car, when, in 1978, he was first kidnapped, then killed, by the Italian Terrorist left-wing organization The Red Brigades. A fictionalised account of these events was produced as a critically well regarded Italian film, The Advocate , which also heavily featured Alfettas of all types, from Carabinieri 'Short Nose-Round Light' through to the Prime Minister's own 'Long Nose-Square Light' 2000 Super Saloon. The transaxle design, in combination with inboard rear brakes and a well-located de Dion rear suspension, resulted in excellent traction and handling. [ edit ] GT, GTV and GTV6 For information about the GTV (916) see Alfa Romeo GTV & Spider Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV. The early GTVs had the letters GTV on C pillar. The Alfetta was the base for the GTV, a fastback coupé version of the saloon, introduced in 1974 as Alfetta GT, initially available only with the 1.8 litre (1779 cc) version of the Alfa DOHC four. [ 4 ] For 1976, with the final phasing out of the earlier 105 Series 1.3 and 1.6 litre coupes (GT 1300 Junior and GT 1600 Junior) and the 2.0 litre 105 series 2000 GTV, the Alfetta GT became a range, also available with the 1.6 litre (1570 cc) and 2.0 litre (1962 cc) versions of the same engine as the Alfetta GT 1.6, Alfetta GT 1.8 and Alfetta GTV 2000. The GTV designation was initially reserved for the 2.0 litre top version. Autodelta also produced a limited edition turbocharged model, named Turbodelta, for FIA Group 4 homologation . This version used a KKK turbo which pushed power up to 175 PS (129 kW). The car also received a modified suspension layout. This was the first Italian production car with a turbocharger. The styling of the GTV, while distinctive, can be seen to share many design features derived from the Montreal supercar, as translated down to a simpler and thus more marketable vehicle. Examples of this are the bonnet line, which while briefer, still has 'scallops' for the headlights, and the tail light clusters which resemble those of the Montreal. The door shape is similar, and in a sharing of parts, both vehicles employ the same door handles. In 1981, the GTV received a restyling, with grey plastic bumpers and all matt-black trim replacing bright stainless steel, the 1.6 litre and 1.8 litre versions were discontinued and the Alfetta 2000 GTV became the base coupé model as the Alfa GTV 2.0. The Alfetta name was dropped, but the two-litre coupé retained its type designation of 11636 for left hand drive and 11637 for right hand drive. 15 inch alloy wheels were now standard, as opposed to the earlier cars' 14 inch pressed steel or optional 14 inch alloy. [ edit ] GTV6 Alfa Romeo GTV6 Production 1980–1987 Body style(s) coupé Engine(s) 2.5 L V6 Later in the same year, the GTV-6 , a version of the GTV with the SOHC V6 2.5 L engine from the Alfa 6 luxury sedan, was released. As a result the hood received a bulge to clear the top of the intake and became its most pronounced feature. With Bosch fuel injection instead of the six downdraught Dell'Orto carburettors in the early Alfa 6 installation, the V6 was much easier to start and retained its state of tune much better. The V6 received rave reviews from the motoring press, which had previously lambasted the same engine in the Alfa 6 because of the carburettor problems. It found its true home in the GTV-6 where it could stretch its legs better than in the less sporting Alfa 6 sedan, including winning the European Touring Car Championship an unprecedented four years in succession (1982–85), the British Touring Car Championship in 1983 at the hands of Andy Rouse , as well as many other racing and rallying competitions. The fuel injection installation eventually made it into the second series of the Alfa 6 as well. The GTV went through a number of revisions, including a new gear ratios and an updated interior in 1984. A grey GTV6 is featured for a short period in the James Bond movie Octopussy . Bond (played by Roger Moore ) steals the parked car in West Germany while its owner uses a pay phone booth and makes haste towards Octopussy's Circus, where he de-fuses a bomb planted by the villainous Kamal Khan ( Louis Jourdan ). [ 5 ] The GTV6 was driven to victory by Greg Carr and Fred Gocentas in the 1987 Australian Rally Championship . South African models were first assembled at Automaker's Rosslyn plant, located outside Pretoria . These early, 1973 models, were manufactured alongside Datsuns. From 1974 South African Alfetta's were manufactured at Alfa Romeo's own Brits plant. South Africa was one of two markets to have a turbocharged GTV6, with a Garrett turbocharger and a NACA intake. An estimated 750 were assembled before all production ceased in 1986. The South African market also introduced the 3.0 L GTV-6, predating the international debut of the factory's 3.0 L engine in 1987. Approximately 200 were built in South Africa for racing homologation. To this day, the GTV-6 remains the quintessential Alfa Romeo for South Africans. A bulge in this red GTV6, the most pronounced feature on the top of the intake is clearly visible. For the U.S. market two limited production GTV-6 models stand out. The Balocco (named after the famous Balocco test track in Italy) in 1982 with a production run of only 350 cars. The Balocco was available only in red with sunroof and black interior, leather wrapped steering wheel and red piping on the seats. There were also two green Quadrifoglio badges fixed on the rear quarter trim pieces above a badge with the "Balocco SE" designation. A plaque inset in the glove box door designated the number of the car out of the series of 350 (XXX of 350) And the GTV-6 2.5 Maratona, of which only 150 were built. The Maratona model included a more aggressive aerodynamic trim package, lightweight Speedline wheels, clear engine view port, sunroof, wood steering wheel and shift knob, rear louvers and Carello fog lamps. All 150 cars were available only painted Silver and with a black leather interior; and came with "Maratona" badging on the rear decklid, front fenders and glove box door. (The most notable feature of the Maratona, its aerodynamic kit, was also available as a dealer-installed option on other GTV-6 models.) Callaway Cars , famous for their modified Camaro , Impala SS and Corvette offerings modified between thirty and thirty-six (depending on whether one "counts" those cars with Callaway components which were not assembled by Callaway but, instead, had those components fitted by Alfa Romeo dealers) twin-turbocharged GTV-6s between 1983 and 1986, of which the first five (the cars produced between 1983 and 1985; these were sold and titled as 1985 model year cars, save for the first prototype which was sold and titled as a 1984) were prototypes. Callaway "production models" were otherwise listed as from the 1986 model year. [ 6 ] In addition to numerous small component upgrades, the Callaway GTV-6s included a somewhat revised suspension (most notably eschewing the metric Michelin TRX wheel/tire combination—then standard on the GTV-6—in favor of Pirelli or Goodyear tires on conventionally-sized BBS, Speedline or OZ lightweight alloys), improved brakes and, most importantly, a twin-turbocharger system, boosting performance to exotic levels. A different twin turbo GTV was also built briefly for the Australian market. [ edit ] GT and GTV racing versions by Autodelta Racing versions of the Alfetta GT and GTV were built by Autodelta , initially with the normally aspirated engine from the earlier GTAm racer based on the 105 series coupe, for homologation under FIA Group 2 . In this form they were rallied with moderate success in 1975, winning the Elba and Costa Brava rallies overall, as well as winning the Group 2 category in the World Rally Championship's Corsican event. The next year Autodelta shifted its focus to circuit racing the Alfettas, which won the under 2.5-liter Group 2 division of the European Touring Car Championship, scoring a remarkable second place overall at the 24 hour race at Spa-Francorchamps, as well as an overall win in the ETC race at Vallelunga . Despite such results, Autodelta's efforts with the Group 2 Alfetta were desultory, and ended prematurely. At a single rally at the end of the 1975 season, Autodelta also rallied an Alfetta GTV with a 3.0 litre V8 engine, derived from the 2.6 litre V8 of the Alfa Romeo Montreal coupé and sharing the same mechanical fuel injection by SPICA . It had been suggested to produce 400 roadgoing versions of this model for homologation but this plan was abandoned as well. In 1980 the Alfetta GTV Turbodelta was already homologated in FIA Group 4 , since the required number of production cars had been built. A racing version was campaigned in rallies, but once more the effort was abandoned after a single season, despite scoring a win at the Danube Rally. In 1986 Alfa Romeo GTV6 was one of the fastest Group A rally cars. [ 7 ] At the end of 1986 the FIA re-assessed the GTV6 homologation and found it to be unsuitable for Group A and it was moved into group B and subsequently banned from the sport. [ 7 ] After that Alfa Romeo turned its Group A racing and rallying efforts to the 75/Milano sedans, which were based on the same rear transaxle chassis. However, 1986 also saw the GTV6 post one of its finest rallying victories when Yves Loubet's example won the Group A in the tragic 1986 Tour de Corse and placed 3rd overall between Group B cars. Rear view of Alfa Romeo 75. The Alfa Romeo 75 , sold in North America as the Milano , was a compact sports sedan / compact executive car produced by the Italian automaker Alfa Romeo between 1985 and 1992. The 75 was commercially quite successful; in just three years, 170,000 cars were produced [ 2 ] and by the end of production in 1992, around 187,300 had been built. [ 3 ] The Alfa Romeo 75 was the last model that the manufacturer developed before being acquired by Fiat. Contents 1 Overview 2 Technical features 3 Turbo Evoluzione 4 Engines 5 Motorsports 6 References 7 External links [ edit ] Overview The 75 was introduced in May 1985 [ 2 ] to replace the Giulietta (with which it shared many components), and was named to celebrate Alfa's 75th year of production. The body, designed by head of Alfa Romeo Centro Stile Ermanno Cressoni , was styled in a striking wedge shape, tapering at the front with square headlights and a matching grille (similar features were applied to the Cressoni-designed 33 ). At the 1986 Turin Auto Salon, a prototype 75 estate was to be seen, an attractive forerunner of the later 156 Sportwagon. This version was, however, never listed for sale, being cancelled after Fiat took control of Alfa Romeo. The car, dubbed the 75 Turbo Wagon, was made by Italian coachbuilder Rayton Fissore using a 75 Turbo as the basis. [ 4 ] Two estate versions were to be found at the later 1987 Geneva Motor Show; one was this Turbo Wagon and the other was a 2.0 litre version named the Sportwagon. [ 5 ] [ edit ] Technical features The 75 featured some unusual technical features, most notably the fact that it was almost perfectly balanced from front to rear. [ 6 ] This was achieved by using transaxle schema — mounting the standard five-speed gearbox in the rear connected to the rear differential ( rear-wheel drive ). The front suspension was a torsion bar and shock absorber combination and the rear an expensive De Dion tube assembled with shock absorbers; these designs were intended to optimize the car's handling; moreover the rear brake discs were fitted at the centre of the rear axle, near the gearbox-differential group. The engine crankshaft was bolted directly to the two-segment driveshaft which ran the length of the underside from the engine block to the gearbox , and rotated at the speed of the engine. The shaft segments were joined with elastomeric 'doughnuts' to prevent vibration and engine/gearbox damage. The 2.0 L Twin Spark and the 3.0 Litre V6 were equipped with limited slip differential . [ 7 ] The 75 featured a then advanced dashboard-mounted diagnostic computer, called Alfa Romeo Control, capable of monitoring the engine systems and alerting the drivers of potential faults. The 75 engine range at launch featured four-cylinder 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 liter petrol carbureted engines, a 2.0 liter intercooled turbodiesel made by VM Motori , [ 8 ] and a 2.5 liter fuel injected V6. In 1986 was introduced 75 Turbo, which featured fuel injected 1779 cc twin cam engine using Garrett T3 turbocharger , intercooler and oil cooler. [ 9 ] In 1987, a 3.0 liter V6 was added to the range and the 2.0 L Alfa Romeo Twin Cam engine was redesigned to have now two spark plugs per cylinder, the engine was named as Twin Spark . With fuel injection and variable valve timing this engine produced 148 PS (109 kW; 146 hp). This engine arguably founded modern engines of today as it was the first production engine to use variable valve timing. [ 9 ] In North America, where the car was known as the Milano, only the 2.5 and 3.0 V6s were available, from 1987 to 1989. The USA-2.5-liters were fundamentally different from their European counterparts. Due to USA regulations, some modifications were required. Most noticeable from the outside were the 'America' bumpers, with the typical rubber harmonicas in them. Furthermore, these bumpers had thick (and heavy) shock-absorbing material inside them and in addition, they were mounted to the vehicle on shock absorbers. To accommodate these shock absorbers, the 'America'-bodies were slightly different from the European ones. Other changes relative to the European model were: A 67-liter fuel tank which was located behind the rear seats, reducing the boot capacity from 500 L (18 cu ft) to 300 L (11 cu ft). Side-markers in the bumpers Exhaust silencer sticking out from under the bumper at the r/h side of the vehicle instead of the center Fortifications in the doors and trunk lid Hooks underneath the hood, to keep the hood in position in a crash The USA-cars also had different equipment levels (depending on the version: Milano Silver, Milano Gold or Milano Platinum). L/h and r/h electrically adjustable outside mirrors, electrically reclining seats and cruise control were usually optional in Europe. The car was also available with a 3-speed ZF automatic gearbox option for the 2.5 V6. Other, more common options such as electrically operated rear windows and an A/C system were standard in the USA. The USA-cars also had different upholstery styles and of course different dashboard panels also indicating speed in mph, oil pressure in psi and coolant temperature in degrees F, and as a final touch the AR control was different, including a seat belt warning light. The European-spec 2.5 V6 (2.5 6V Iniezione or 2.5QV) was officially sold only between 1985 and 1987, although some of them were not registered until 1989. Relatively few of them were sold (about 2800 units), especially when the 155 PS (114 kW; 153 hp) 1.8 Turbo got launched, which in some countries was cheaper in taxes because of its lower displacement. To create a bigger space between the V6 and the inline fours, the 2.5 was bored out to 2959 cc's to deliver 188 PS (138 kW; 185 hp) and this new engine was introduced in the 3.0 America in 1987. As its type designation suggests, the 3.0 only came in the US-specification, with the impact-bumpers and in-boot fuel tank. However, the European 'America's' were not equipped with side-markers or the door, hood and trunk lid fortifications. Depending on the country of delivery, the 3.0 America could be equipped with a catalytic converter. In 1988 engines were updated again, the 1.8 L carburetor version was replaced with fuel injected 1.8 i.e and new bigger diesel engine was added to the range. In the end of 1989 the 1.6 L carburetor version was updated to have fuel injection and 1990 the 1.8 L turbo and 3.0i V6 got some more power and updated suspension. The 3.0 V6 was now equipped with a Motronic system instead of an L-Jetronic. The 1.8L turbo was now also available in 'America'-spec, but strangely enough not available for the USA market. The 3.0 V6 did make it to the United States, and was sold as Milano Verde. [ 9 ] [ edit ] Turbo Evoluzione 500 examples of the Turbo Evoluzione were produced in spring 1987 to meet Group A requirements. [ 10 ] The car had many modifications compared to the normal turbo model. The engine was 1762 cc (normal 1779 cc) and claimed power was the same as in the standard turbo, but the engine is better suited for power upgrades than the standard 75 Turbo engine. Team drivers included such names as Nicola Larini , Gabriele Tarquini , Sandro Nannini , Jacques Laffite and Mario Andretti . [ 12 ] With no success and the whole season being a farce Alfa Romeo left the series before the overseas races. [ 13 ] Gianfranco Brancatelli won the 1988 ITC serie with Alfa 75 Turbo and Giorgio Francia placed second in the 1991 ITC. [ 14 ] The 9th Giro d'Italia in 1988 was won by the team of Miki Biasion , Tiziano Siviero and Riccardo Patrese with a 75 Turbo Evoluzione IMSA. (to end '83) Types: Saloon,4 doors,4 seats [View Picture Gallery] Alfa Romeo launched an all new saloon model in 1972, the Alfetta Saloon. Although the Alfetta had a fairly conventional unitary construction, four door body it had an unusual gearbox layout (for a saloon). The Alfetta had a Ferrari style trans-axle. This meant that the gearbox was combined with the rear axle and so provided a better weight balance. The Alfetta came with a 1.8 litre twin-cam engine to start with, however the engine was reduced in size to 1.6 litres in 1975. From 1977 a more powerful 2.0 litre engine was made available. Running a new Bosch fuel injection system, the V6’s power was up to 160bhp, giving the GTV6 a very useful power hike, as well as one of the most sublime soundtracks in motoring history. Like the Alfetta GT and GTV before it a good GTV6 was a phenomenally good car in the bends and Alfa’s coupé finally had the power to exploit it.
