classic 1980/V reg Alfa Romeo Spider finished in Rosso Red. A very modern car for its day designed by famous Italian stylist Pininfarina and includes a sporty 2-litre twin-cam engine, 5-speed gearbox and disc brakes all-round. Remarkably I am only the 2nd owner of this great little car, having purchased it almost 3 years ago from the original owner - a retired Army Colonel – who had bought the car brand new whilst stationed in Germany back in July 1980. He then subsequently imported the car into the UK in 1984 upon his return. I always wanted one of these beautiful cars to use in the summer and it has been one of the best cars I have ever owned. I was weary of the Alfa reputation at first but this car has proven very reliable. I drove it across Europe last summer, clocking up around 3000 miles without any trouble whatsoever and the gorgeous design gets admiring glances wherever it goes. But alas I just don’t have time anymore to enjoy the car, so the time has come - I must regretfully sell it and let someone else enjoy the car. The car comes with 10 months MOT (expires - June 15th 2011) and includes 3 months TAX (until 30th November 2010) whilst running on unleaded fuel returning around 30mpg. I have had the car regularly serviced and maintained by a respected Alfa specialist in the Peak District and comes with folders of history & previous bills including the original Alfa Romeo handbook. Also included in great condition is the original Alfa Romeo service book, which is fully stamped up to 1997 (99,000km). Please note: As the car is originally German and Left-Hand-Drive, the speedometer is presented in Kilometres per hour (KPH) instead of Miles per hour (MPH) with the clock reading 134,000 km – which translates to only 83,000 miles! Not bad for a 30 year old classic car. The hood and plastic rear window are in good condition and shows no sign of fading, having been replaced by the original owner before I purchased the car. The car has a suprisingly generous boot making it ideal for European excursions and includes what would appear to be the original tool kit. The boot is lined with an original Alfa rubber mat in excellent condition. The interior is gorgeous and in good condition, recently benefitting from a full set of official Alfa rubber mats (which cost £450) and unusually for a spider there are NO sun-splits in the dashboard. All gauges (speedometer, tachometer, oil, fuel, water) all work as they should. Being hyper-critical there is a relatively small split in the base of each seat but could probably be easily fixed by an upholsterer and one of the sunvisors has a small split at the seam. Mechanically the car is in excellent condition. The 2-litre twin-cam engine looks and sounds glorious and drives as you’d expect. Items replaced during my ownership include: radiator, radiator cap, radiator fan, HT leads, brake calliper, brake pads, rear exhaust box, recent battery and recent front tyres. (Last year - annoyingly the unsecured overflow pipe got sucked into the radiator fan which broke the fan blades off and punctured the radiator core – hence the new parts – overflow pipe now fully secured!) J The gearbox shows signs of the usual 2nd gear weak syncromesh problem when cold (eg – it crunches very slightly going into 2nd gear), although this is not a problem once warm and can be avoided altogether by a gentle gear-change. :) Overall the bodywork looks good for its age but is not concours and does have the odd mark. Importantly the sills are all good although upon close inspection signs of rust can be found on some lower panels. Fortunately most spare parts and panels for these cars are very well catered for by companies specialising in classic Alfa’s with almost everything available. Although the rusty panels don`t really detract from the beauty of the car, if I were to keep it I would replace the following: front panel (under front bumper), rear panel (under rear bumper) and some bubbling can be found around the rear wheel arches. This is a great driveable classic that would benefit from someone who doesn`t mind a little bodywork to bring back to mint condition. This classic Alfa is a great little car which is a true joy to drive and is ready to be enjoyed during the summer months. The car is equipped with a 1598cc 4 cylinder 16 valve twin spark engine, manual 5 speed gearbox, power steering, air conditioning, sports seats, built-in radio/CD player (with 6 speakers), steering wheel mounted audio controls, on-board computer, multiple air bags, alloy wheels, front fog lights, anti-lock brakes, traction control, remote central looking, alarm, immobiliser etc. As you will see from the pictures this car has the later face lifted interior, which makes a big difference. She is in excellent condition inside and out, has just had a full valet and looks fantastic. The car has 4 previous owners and was first registered in July 2002. We purchased the car in June 2005 it has been my daily car since then and has been a joy to drive. The gearbox is smooth and precise and the clutch is fine. MOT expires November 2010 and is Road Taxed until end November 2010. Performance wise she is fast enough to get you into trouble and has nice taught handling. She is just coming up for 75,000 miles on the clock and has a full service history. Service intervals are 12,000 miles; at 60,000 miles she had the cambelt replaced and a top end engine rebuild carried out (funded by Alfa and carried out by Northgate Alfa, Canterbury) as the cambelt went prematurely, and a basic service at 72,000 miles. see from the pics. A van has reversed into it crushing the front end in a little. It`s not major damage but it could do with a new bonnet to be honest, other than that everything else will go again. I`ve put a 12 month M.O.T on it and it flew through. The car starts and drives fine, the steering is tight and there are no knocks, rattles, bangs or smoke. The car is actually a tidy thing, it`s just a shame about the bonnet. There is some marks on the roof and around the door handle on the drivers side. The interior is in good condition and everything works as it should. The car has Air-Con, Climate Control, ESP, Steering Wheel Controls, PAS, Alloys, CD Player and 8 Disc CD Changer, Drivers/Passenger & Side Airbags. | We have had this car for nearly three years and before that it had one lady owner from new. It has been serviced once a year since new by Alfa Romeo specialists, with the last service in February at 43923 miles. It has had the all important cambelt change at 34093 miles plus new pulleys, variator and rear brake pads at the same time. It also had the tyres replaced (with Pirelli P6000 Powergy) a little over a year ago. | The bodywork is in good condition but does have a few stone chips and minor scratches (see photos, I can send more if required). The interior is also in good condition with some minor wear on the seats. I have owned since Jan 05. Generally good condition for year, but has some wear and tear. Drives very well, fast and achieves 30mpg. Has been very reliable. Taxed till end of Dec 2010 Mot till 15th November 2010 Top spec, with cruise control, trip computer, leather, alloys, CD Radio and 10 disc Blaupunkt Autochanger, multi function adjustable steering wheel, power steering, electric windows and mirrors, climate control, front fog lights, airbags, heated seats. Exterior Black paintwork. Some minor scratches and small dings. A few stone chips to bonnet. Crease at top of bonnet on drivers side. Rear passenger wheel arch has a very, very slight scrape, which I have tried to capture in the photos. Alloys – good condition but with some minor curbing 4 new tyres January 2009. All have good tread. Windscreen replaced September 09. No chips or cracks. Interior Never been smoked in. Tan Leather seats in good condition front and back. A little bit of wear and tear but nothing noticeable. Roof lining and dash in good condition All buttons and switches work. Service History Some service history and receipts. Service book stamped up to 48k. After that oil and filter changed annually by my dad. Service at 78k by a local garage. Service at 106k, Nov 08 including new cam belt/balance shaft and all tensioners and pulleys. New variator. New spark plugs. All fluids and filters changed. Oil last changed Nov 2009. There are a couple of points to note which will need attention at some point. Wheel bearing squeak from front off side and rear drivers side wheels Brake discs look quite worn, could probably do with replacing soon Air con needs re gassing 2 keys, but the boot open buttons don’t work. put the baby`s seat in (it just won`t fit in a coupe, as much as I`ve tried). I`ve owned the car for just over a year, and have covered around 10,000 miles since I`ve had it. It`s been fantastic; starts first time, drives well, makes a great noise when you put your foot down - exactly what you want from this type of car. The half-leather interior is in excellent condition, with no rips or tears. The car has MOT and Tax till the end of October. The mileage is 108 000 and will not rise, as I`m no longer using the Alfa for everyday motoring. I do turn the engine over every so often though to make sure everything is running fine (whic it is). There are some dings and scrapes which are normal for a car of this age, and which I`ve tried to show in the photos. The driver`s side window has just stopped working, and I was quoted £180 to fix it. I`ve tried to list everything, but if there are any more questions then feel free to ask and I`ll see what I can do. This would make a terrific car for the right person as it is, and with a little tlc it would be even better. X
